ABOUT ME

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1973, from a very young age, Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas has been fascinated and drawn into the world of visual arts and all that relates to creativeness. She studied chemical engineering at the Metropolitan University of Caracas, but soon opted for the more glamorous world of fashion. It wasn’t until the new millennium began, that Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas finally realized her true calling. In the year 2006 she traveled to San Francisco to study with the renowned Concrete Master Fu-Tung Cheng, where she learned about the techniques and secrets of working and creating with Concrete.
On December 9th, 2006, she presented her first group exhibition, “The Birth”, at the Independent Visual Art Gallery, in the Wyndwood Art District in Miami, Florida. “The Birth” Collection was created using this new concrete technique, not yet found in many art galleries. It revolves around concepts related to the origins of the human being, birth, rebirth, unions and separations. Sanchez Vegas represented these concepts through the image of an egg, an element that contains, in itself, a beginning and fragility. The concrete is a noble material that represents the steps taken by a human being: leaving behind traces. In its polish it represents a mirror its memory is perpetual.
On April 14th, 2007, she made her debut presenting her first solo exhibition: “ The Universe”, also at the Wyndwood Art District. In this collection, she outlines every human being and their existence as a universe of their own. Realizing that each creature, each soul, is a universe of its own, and that throughout their lives, they will experience absolute freedom and deepened darkness, learning and growing with each encounter. Without these two elements, one cannot say life has been fully experienced.
In Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas two exhibits, she has successfully been able to incorporate not only a new foundation in visual arts, but also a new complex technique, incorporating various elements with which she achieved an interaction between her pieces and people, turning her art into daily functional and absolutely breathtaking sculptures: tables, benches, sinks, etc., where the user is able to envision something new and different every time the piece is looked at and used. Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas has been able to combine engineering, design, art and concrete in the process of conceiving her artwork, which can easily be placed among the most innovative creations of these times.
Sanchez-Vegas currently resides and creates in Miami, FL.

Why Concrete it's a sustainable material?

Sustainability refers to the ability to build for today and tomorrow without depleting future resources. A growing global population is beginning to strain the finite resources available on the planet. Sustainability seeks to balance the economic, social and environmental impacts, recognizing that population growth will continue. Sustainable development brings this evaluation to the design and construction industry.

Recognizing that U.S. buildings use nearly 10 percent of the world’s energy, there is an increasing demand for sustainable development and GREEN building practices. In fact, U.S. buildings use three times more energy than similar buildings in similar climates in Europe. Therefore, the U.S government is adopting green building programs and an increasing number of states are offering tax benefits for GREEN public buildings.

Gabriela Sanchez-Vega , visual artists and concerned citizen of the Earth, who, with her exclusive concrete methods, has joined the quest for sustainability by integrating her art with recyclable materials and our nature, using concrete as the fusion of these elements. Concrete is considered a sustainable material and its durability gains strength over time, which in turn, conserves resources by reducing maintenance and the need for reconstruction. Concrete offers significant energy savings over a lifetime. As an example of her exceptional creation, Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas has fashioned tables using water bottles, and for her quite unique benches, she has found materials that have been tossed in construction sites’ dumpsters, giving very practical use to otherwise lost resources.

In the hopes of saving our Earth and keeping our GREEN spaces, it is comforting to know that we can count on  Gabriela Sanchez–Vegas, to spread the word of preservation and sustainability of our Earth.
